Trinchero Family

Family, Wine, &
the American Dream

A landscape with a valley and trees.

In 1948, Napa Valley was a far different place than it is today. That’s where our story begins.

In the late 1940's, Mario and Mary Trinchero took a leap of faith and moved across the country from New York City to California, becoming one of only 15 wineries in the Napa Valley.

This move set their own American Dream story into motion, laying the groundwork for future generations.

Over the next 75 years, the Trinchero Family's hard work and dedication transformed the company into the country's 2nd largest family-owned winery. To this day, we still have a strong appreciation for the humble beginnings of our founders and the unwavering dream that brought Mario and Mary Trinchero to the Napa Valley in the first place.

The Perseverance
That Built Trinchero

1948

A Journey West

Young Italian immigrant Mario Trinchero leaves New York City and heads west to the Napa Valley, hoping to build a better life for his wife Mary and their three children, Bob, Roger and Vera. They purchase an abandoned Prohibition-era winery in St. Helena, refurbishing it and initially scraping by as a mom-and-pop operation.

1970s

The Making of a Legend

Trinchero's acclaimed single-vineyard Zinfandel wines, crafted from old-growth vines in Amador County, are greeted with wide acclaim from wine critics, sommeliers and consumers. In 1972, second-generation vintner Bob Trinchero bottles the world’s first White Zinfandel, producing 220 cases and shaping the course of wine history.

1980s

Estate Vineyards

Trinchero family roots are deepened with the purchase of Mary's Vineyard in Calistoga in the early 1980's. In the following years, Trinchero continued to acquire vineyards in some of Napa Valley's most prestigious sub-appellations and partner with some of Napa Valley's most coveted growers to expand its footprint. By the early 2000's, more than 250 acres are farmed by the Trinchero family throughout Napa Valley.

2000s

State-of-the-Art Winery

In 2004, Trinchero purchased the Folie à Deux Winery, north of St. Helena, with a vision for creating an opulent, boutique winery and the home for its evolving, luxury portfolio. By 2009, no expense was spared to bring this vision to life. The design for the new Trinchero Napa Valley Winery was led by 3rd generation family member, Bob Torres, and includes beautiful nods to Mario and Mary's roots in New York City.

2009

A Dream Fulfilled

The inaugural release of Trinchero's limited-production, estate-grown wines under the Trinchero Napa Valley label is heralded by critics and connoisseurs alike. Less than 12,000 cases are produced. Wine Enthusiast names Trinchero Family Estates "American Winery of the Year."

2016

Building Our Future & Redefining Hospitality

The spirit of innovation continued with the construction of Trinchero's new tasting room, completed in the spring of 2016. The pinnacle of Napa Valley hospitality, this new space elevated Trinchero's St. Helena Estate, complementing the state-of-the-art winery and gourmet culinary center.

Turn the Page

In January 2024, we unveiled the next chapter for Trinchero with an entirely new collection of luxury wines that underscore our ongoing pursuit of the best that Napa Valley has to offer. We like to say we are turning the page, but still with a nod to the pioneering spirit of Mary and Mario that steers Trinchero to this day.
