In many ways, Mario Monticelli is a grape grower at heart, intimately connected to our estate vineyards. He personally selects the finest lots from 200 acres of pristine vineyards throughout Napa Valley. In the cellar, no one dictates how much wine Mario should make. Instead, we simply ask him to craft the best wine possible. With that freedom comes the ability to adapt to each vintage, to articulate a vineyard’s terroir in its purest expression. Mario studied viticulture and enology at the University of California, Davis, and honed his craft at venerable producers like Antinori in Chianti and Melka Wines in Napa Valley before joining Trinchero Napa Valley in 2007.
In its highest form, a wine should convey what the land gives us. Translating terroir—there’s a bit of magic to that. When we get it right, the vineyard comes alive in the glass.
