Young Italian immigrant Mario Trinchero leaves New York City and heads west to the Napa Valley, hoping to build a better life for his wife Mary and their three children, Bob, Roger and Vera. Our family purchases an abandoned Prohibition-era winery in St. Helena, refurbishing it and initially scraping by as a mom-and-pop operation.
Our single-vineyard Zinfandel wines, crafted from old-growth vines in Amador County at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, are greeted with wide acclaim from wine critics, sommeliers and consumers. In 1972, second-generation vintner Bob Trinchero creates the world’s first White Zinfandel under the Sutter Home label and the rest—as they say—is history.
We deepen our family's roots in the Napa Valley, purchasing highly sought-after vineyards throughout the region’s most prestigious sub-appellations. With a collection of estate vineyards spanning 200 acres in St. Helena, Mt. Veeder, Atlas Peak and Rutherford, we gain greater influence over the quality of our fruit, setting the stage for handcrafted winemaking in the decades to come.
In 2004 we purchase the Folie à Deux Winery, north of St. Helena, with a vision for creating our first boutique wines bottled under the Trinchero Napa Valley name. To honor our family’s journey and leave an indelible legacy for future generations, the Trinchero Napa Valley Winery is built in 2007. That same year, our winemaking team crushes the first vintage of Trinchero Napa Valley.
The inaugural release of our limited-production, estate-grown wines under the Trinchero Napa Valley label is heralded by critics and connoisseurs alike. Less than 12,000 cases are produced.
Our spirit of innovation continued with the construction of our new tasting room, completed in spring 2016. The pinnacle of Napa Valley hospitality, this new space elevated our St. Helena estate, complementing our state-of-the-art winery and gourmet culinary center. This year also marked the unveiling of our Heritage Collection, featuring Mary’s Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Mario’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Forte Red Wine and BRV Cabernet Sauvignon.
